In my latest project, Dark Desires, I am working with original 1960s “mini lobby cards”, designed to promote movies in theatres. I’m especially drawn to the lush settings, stylish fashion and humorous, over the top drama and campiness of these images; as well as the often-aggressive stances of the men toward the women. By fading the male figures into silhouettes and combining them with art and ads lifted from contemporary art and fashion magazines, I am emphasizing their body language, bringing the women’s complex reactions to the foreground – ranging between fear, annoyance, lust and ambivalence.
